OVERVIEW

About the book

After the wreck of the Lady Vain, Edward Prendick drifts for days in a small boat before he is picked up by a ship carrying a cargo of animals. It takes him to a remote island where a man called Moreau lives with his assistant. Prendick knows the name. Moreau is the scientist who had to flee London after a scandal. On the island Prendick meets strange figures in the undergrowth, hears screams from a locked enclosure and starts to understand what the doctor is making. H. G. Wells wrote the novel in 1896. It is a horror story and a sharp question about where science should stop.
