OVERVIEW

About the book

When cholera takes her parents in India, ten-year-old Mary Lennox is sent to Misselthwaite Manor, the home of an uncle she has never met. Nobody there wants her, and she does not like anybody either. Then she hears about a garden that has been locked up for ten years, and a robin shows her where the key is buried. With the help of Dickon, a boy who can talk to animals, she begins to bring it back to life. And at night she hears someone crying somewhere in the house. Frances Hodgson Burnett’s novel of 1911 is a story about how a garden and a friendship can heal what adults cannot.
