OVERVIEW

About the book

Tom Canty is born in a London slum on the same day as Edward, son of King Henry VIII. Years later, a chance meeting at the palace gate shows that the two boys look exactly alike, and they swap clothes as a game. Before they can undo it, the prince is thrown out into the street in rags and Tom is left in the palace, where everybody thinks the heir to the throne has gone mad. Mark Twain’s novel of 1881 is an adventure full of humour, and a sharp look at what power and poverty do to people.
