OVERVIEW

About the book

One warm evening in the Seeonee hills a small naked child walks into a wolf’s cave. Mother Wolf decides to keep him and names him Mowgli, the little frog. Baloo the bear teaches him the Law of the Jungle and Bagheera the black panther watches over him, because the tiger Shere Khan wants him for himself. Besides the stories of Mowgli the book holds other tales, among them the brave mongoose Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and the white seal who searches for a safe island. Rudyard Kipling published The Jungle Book in 1894. Its stories have been read aloud to children ever since.
