OVERVIEW

About the book

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. So when the wealthy Mr Bingley rents Netherfield Park, Mrs Bennet sees a husband for one of her five daughters. Bingley brings his friend Mr Darcy, who is even richer and much less pleasant. At the first ball he refuses to dance with Elizabeth Bennet, and she decides she has seen enough of him. Jane Austen’s novel of 1813 is witty, sharp and romantic. Two centuries later it is still one of the most loved books in the English language.
